Exhibition Stand Design
New Designers commission for UOB2019
Narrative is central to exhibition design, using spatial planning and object placement to tell a cohesive story, as highlighted by Dernie (2006). This approach creates immersive experiences by engaging viewers through sensory elements, messaging, and familiarity.
Ideation – The University of Brighton's Product Design course aimed to create an engaging exhibit for the New Designers stand, reflecting the university's values and appealing to prospective students, employers, and the public. With 15,000 visitors expected, the stand needed to showcase Brighton as a forward-thinking institution while complementing the displayed products. A well-designed exhibit increased the likelihood of interaction, recruitment, and commission opportunities.
1:10 Scale Models – To address visitor diversity, prototypes and user testing helped identify pain points and improve the layout. The model explored alternative layouts to reduce congestion and foster a more inclusive environment. A central bandstand created a focal point, encouraging circular movement and equal attention for all displays.
